Castro Marim Golfe and Country Club
The clubhouse has a spectacular, panoramic view east to Spain and south to the sea in the distance.
The catering manager is an Irishman called Michael Hegarty, who has created a simple but very good menu. We have dined many times in the clubhouse, both at lunchtime and in the evening and have found it an enjoyable place to eat. It has the added benefit that it is only a short walk home!
'O Pescador' (Praia do Cabeco)
'O Pescador' is situated on the beach. It is a sister restaurant to the Castro Marim clubhouse with a similar menu. The main difference is the setting and the ambiance. 'O Pescador' has fantastic views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the pure white beach. Having lunch or dinner on the terrace, you know why you have come for a holiday in Portugal.
'Sem Espinhas' (Praia do Cabeco)
This restaurant is next door to 'O Pescador', right on the beach.
The food is excellent and the staff friendly.
The cheese starter is well worth trying!
'Pezinhos Na Areia' (Praia Verde)
Another restaurant, which is right on the beach, with fantastic views of the Atlantic. You'll find it at Praia Verde. Go as far as you can past the Panoramic Restaurant and then down to the beach. In the summer, you will have to find a place to park ,but out of season you can drive all the way down.
Quinta do Vale
New golf club, adjacent to Castro Marim Golfe and Countryclub - you pass it on the way home. The clubhouse is situated on a promontory overlooking the Guadiana River and the bridge into Spain. A good place for a lunch snack with a view. It's not open in the evenings yet.
Guerreiros Do Rio
As you drive along the Guadiana River, this hotel is a find. It is perched on the hillside, with an incredible, unspoilt view across the Guadiana River into Spain. If you take a day trip to Alcoutim, this is a pleasant place to linger over lunch.
